It’s interesting, I get asked this question by almost everyone who hears the name for the first time.
And I get it, cause it’s not really the most straightforward name.
To me, it’s just a fun word to say — one I enjoy saying more and more, the more I repeat it. It’s like fine wine; it only gets better with time.
So from where did I think of the name MQWE?
Honestly, in the early days, when I was deciding that I wanted to start this brand - coming up with the name was the hardest part.
The problem I faced was not so much with coming up with the names, but coming up with names that I could in fact get registered!
So I spent days coming up with all sorts of names, trying to see if I could get any of them registered.
Here are a few names I came up with: Yung Noble, Romp Studios, Open Road, MSC, M.S.C.H.F, RME Studios etc.
There was no hope for me with any of these names.
And then I read this somewhere: If you can make up a word and fill that empty vessel of a word with meaning and emotion, then, long term, you’ve invented something that actually enters the language and is completely yours.
And I understood, THIS is exactly what I need to do.
So I started coming up with words, drawing from my personal tastes and life experiences. Whenever I try to draw inspiration for my work, I always look to my own life. It’s always been that way for me.
And in the midst of my train of thought, I suddenly remembered Lightning Mcqueen (the animated movie character in the movie ‘Cars’).
I have always loved that movie and felt deeply influenced by Lightning McQueen as a kid. And as an added bonus: I just love saying the word “McQueen.”
And from there (drumroll please…..) came the word: MQWE (pronounce as Maqwee)
And that’s all he wrote.
